사람을 제대로 보려거든 옆모습까지도 보라

If you want to see a person properly, look at his profile as well.

 

어떤 이를 평할 때, 그의 앞뒤 모습을 함께 보라고들 한다.

보이지 않는 부분은 물론 끝판 이후도 살펴보라는 얘기다.

 

나는 거기에 더하여

얼굴과 등 외에 옆구리까지 살피라고 말하고 싶다.

 

어떤 이의 진면목을 제대로 살피려면

보는 이의 자리(시선 각도)도 바뀌어야 한다. 필요할 때마다.

옆구리를 잘 보려면 보는 이가 움직여야 한다.

한자리에서만 바라보는 일은

사상(事象)에 대한 고정관념의 무덤으로 직행할 때가 더 많다.

 

삶의 해석에서 고집불통 격으로 자신도 모르게

편견이나 아집의 늪으로 빠진 사람들은

자리바꿈부터 연습할 필요가 그래서 있다.

 

(그런데 이런 소리를 하는 것도 아집의 하나라면?

When you need to make a comment on someone,

it is often said that you should take a look at

the appearances from both front and back of the person.

This means you should observe the part invisible

as well as the follow-through after last serve.

 

As for me, in doing it, I would like to suggest that

you add the side to the face and back.

 

In order to get to know the true character of a person,

it is necessarily needed that your point/angle of view

should change on a need to do basis.

And you should move yourself if you want to look at one’s side carefully.

Seeing on in one place all the time leads you to the

tomb of stereotype in reading the things.

 

It is therefore needed for those who are so stubborn to

unwittingly make himself fall into a swamp of prejudice

or obstinacy to have a try at changing his seat first. [Feb. 2016]

 

(What if saying this is too a kind of obstinacy??)
